Cobble stone and races

Some teaser photos for you.  I always told Carly to take photos with faces because it's way more interesting to look at.  She listened and I'll eventually learn to do the same (-from Carly).

Taking on a 4km race on a leisure Saturday...on cobble stone roads.
Kind of like most of Eastern Europe, narrow streets leading to wide open courtyards.

Nothing like the streets of Rome....ania.

Birthday, driving, and home sweet home.

My birthday here was good day. We found a home and established Bank account. That's alot to accomplish let me tell you. On Tuesday I go to Bucharest and do more paperwork. Valya has left for Ukraine today so I will be on my own for a while.

I still cannot get over the fact that driving a car here in Romania is so dangerous. Drivers here have no respect for anyone. Other drivers or pedestrians. No Stef, not like in Costa Rica. It is dangerous to walk here because of the risk of getting hit by cars. People here drive and park on the sidewalk. The streets are narrow and no place for cars to park...so they park on sidewalk. You can be sitting at outdoor cafe and some guy will drive up and park by your table. This is stupid crazy (new phrase), but I expect to get used to all this madness.

I have taken pictures of new home (actually brand new) and will show you all at later date. We will live in a new area that has been built in the forest. There are two lakes and a zoo near by ( 5 minute walk).
The company still has to negotiate with the owner but I expect that to be not a problem. The owner of the house also owns the only golf course in Ploiesti. Yesterday our company had a party at this golf club. In Canada this course would be called a par 3 course, but here it is a big deal.

Our hotel Vigo is one of the better ones in Ploiesti. But, at 5:30 the rooster starts. At 6:00 it's the cat outside the window. At 6:30 the motorcycle's. At 7:00 the car and horns. At 10:00 pm the dog's start their fighting. Wild dogs...and, on the weekends, all night long, the disco music and party at the hotel.

The Train Station. ( gara de sud ) Ploiesti station looks like something out of WW2. It is not a pretty site. More on that later.

At work, I am beginning 2nd week. Still getting organized. Everyone is very helpful. Romanian oilpatch is similiar to Canadian oilpatch so o.k. there. More on that later!

So I'm going to have breakfast. Talk later.......Ole Dad.
